Canada Day yogurt parfaits and layered jello.

Red and White Jello

4 pkg. 3 oz  red Jello
4 pkg. Knox unflavored gelatin
1 can sweetened condensed milk

1. Mix 1 pkg flavored jello with 1/2 pkg of unflavored gelatin. Add 1 cup boiling water. Stir to dissolve. Cool to room temp and pour into individual wine glasses. I used 6 x 6 oz glasses.  Refrigerate for 30 minutes to set layer.

2. Mix 1 can sweetened condensed milk with 1 cup boiling water. In a different small bowl, sprinkle 2 pkg unflavored gelatin over 1/2 cup cold water. Let stand a few minutes and then add 1/2 c boiling water to dissolve gelatin. Add this to milk mixture and stir to combine. Cool to room temp and pour 1 cup of milk mixture over first layer of jello. Refrigerate for 30 minutes.  You will have milk mixture left over for the next layer.  I just put bowl of milk mixture inside another bowl with warm water so it would not set before the next layer of jello was ready.

Repeat step one.

Repeat step two.

Repeat step one.

Top with whipped cream.

Yummy!!

Red and White Yogurt Parfaits

For the yogurt parfaits you will need 2 kinds of yogurt - vanilla, and strawberry.  I added a bit of red food coloring to the strawberry yogurt as it was just pink.  Layer the yogurt in individual wine glasses.

Do as many layers as you want but remember to end with the red layer at the top of the glass.  Add whipped cream.

More yummy!!

Canada Day red and white nacho dip

This is a crowd favorite for any occasion.  It is simple to make, the ingredients are usually on hand, and it is the first thing eaten at a party... I have a Pinterest board devoted to dip.  Dip is awesome.  Now I want to go to a party - or just make it for dinner.

This recipe is super duper easy.

Start with cream cheese and sour cream - equal amounts of each.  I used 2 bricks of cream cheese and one 500 ml tub of sour cream.

Left the cream cheese soften on the counter for a few minutes.  Mix together in a bowl with a hand mixer or in a food processor until well blended.

Spread in a 8 x 11 glass dish (so you can see the pretty layers.)

Spread on small jar of salsa over top of the white layer.

Sprinkle with 1 cup of grated cheese.  I chose mozza because I wanted white cheese for the red-and-white dip.

Serve with white chips, or red if you can find them.

Canada Day sandwiches

Today we explore Canada Day sandwiches... for kids.

These are simple peanut butter and/or jam sandwiches that are shaped like cool Canadian icons.

What is cooler than a...

1. Moose

2. Beaver

3. Maple Leaf

I just cut out shapes from cookie cutters or glasses and then used a few bits and pieces of snack food for detail.  All the kids at your Canada Day party (and the cool adults) will LOVE.

Canada Day finger food

Some easy and fun finger food for a Canada Day party... perfect for kids and adults.

Start by going to your local dollar store and picking up a set of cute and inexpensive Canada Day mugs.  They had a huge selection.  I liked the red and white maple leaf ones the best.

Put one orange into each cup.  This will be the base for your skewers to stick into.

Red and white fruit next.

Slice the banana into 1/2 inch slices.

Alternate cut bananas and strawberries on a skewer.  Poke into the orange in the cup.

If you are not serving it right away you can use large white marshmallows instead of bananas.  You can also use candy strawberries... Go wild!!

 So cute!!

Now we will find some red vegetables and white cheese.  I chose a boring mild cheese because of the kids.  My kids are not adventurous.  Know your guests.  As long as the cheese is white... go wild.

Cut cheese into a fun shape.  I chose triangles.  You can do cubes or cut out a fancy shape with a cookie cutter.

Alternate cheese and tomatoes in a pattern on a skewer.  Poke into the orange.

Serve!
