Canada Day Watermelon Fun

Summer is here!  Bring on the watermelon.  Nothing beats watermelon on a hot day.  The only thing better than watermelon is well... more watermelon of course.

I saw this and knew I had to try.  I spent hours looking up carved fruit and this was cool and looked doable. I do not know who these fruit carver people are but I do not have time to do that.  I have zombies to kill and kids to watch kill zombies.  Sharks kill things too so my boys were all over this of course.  There was even mention of putting a barbie doll in the shark's mouth... of course there was.  Good thing no self respecting Barbie would be caught within 100 miles of these maniacs.

For this particular project all you need is watermelon, 2 grapes for eyes and a sharp big knife.

Slice one end on a angle so your shark will look like he is leaping out of the water...

On the other end cut a v-shape for the mouth.  Use a knife to peel the green skin off a small strip around the V.  Do not cut all the way down to the pink flesh.  You want to see white.  This will be the teeth.

Carve little triangles along the entire strip.  Use a melon baller to scoop out all the watermelon flesh. Stick one purple grape eye on each side with a toothpick.  Optional - add Barbie (whole or parts) in the shark's mouth.

Eat him before he eats you!!

Canada Day is coming up this weekend.  Another fun watermelon idea is Canada Day watermelon pops.

Cut whole watermelon into 1/2 inch slices.

Cut into shapes with a cookie cutter.  This can be any kind of cookie cutter. This happens to be a large Maple Leaf for Canada Day!  Add a wooden skewer or a popsicle stick.

The leftover watermelon could be used as a decoration as it still looks really cute!

Yummy, healthy, and patriotic... everyone wins!
